Retail NZ has become an important and highly supportive partner to HMG. Its team brings a deep understanding of the pressures facing retailers and plays a vital role in representing and supporting businesses throughout Aotearoa.
We know that many retailers have concerns about the cost of music licensing and want greater confidence that the fees they pay are delivering meaningful value. Through our partnership with Retail NZ, HMG is working to establish another practical licensing option that can reduce overall licensing costs while directing a greater proportion of royalties to participating New Zealand artists and rights holders.
HMG’s Fair Play Aotearoa service brings music supply, direct licensing, detailed playback reporting and artist royalty distribution together in one integrated model. It gives retailers greater visibility of the music being played across their locations and helps create a more direct connection between the businesses using music and the local creators who made it.
Our partnership with Retail NZ will help us better understand the needs of retailers, introduce the Fair Play model to the sector and explore practical opportunities for businesses to support New Zealand music.
